Our task is to build the Order of Bahá’u’lláh. Undeflected by the desperate expedients of those who seek to subdue the storm convulsing human life by political, economic, social or educational programs, let us, with single-minded devotion and concentrating all our efforts on our objective, raise His Divine System and sheltered within its impregnable stronghold, safe from the darts of doubtfulness, demonstrate the Bahá’í way of life. Wherever a Bahá’í community exists, whether large or small, let it be distinguished for its abiding sense of security and faith, its high standard of rectitude, its complete freedom from all forms of prejudice, the spirit of love among its members and for the closely knit fabric of its social life. The acute distinction between this and present-day society will inevitably arouse the interest of the more enlightened, and as the world’s gloom deepens the light of Bahá’í life will shine brighter and brighter until its brilliance must eventually attract the disillusioned masses and cause them to enter the haven of the Covenant of Bahá’u’lláh, Who alone can bring them peace and justice and an ordered life. — Universal House of Justice 1

  • The Administrative Order: This system is identified as the “structure of freedom” for the current age. 25 26 27 It embodies the operating principles and moderation necessary to safeguard the enjoyment of true liberty while preventing human agency from descending into chaotic license. 28 29 30
  • The Power of the Covenant: The Covenant of Bahá’u’lláh serves as the “guarantor of the unity of the free,” channeling individual belief into constructive deeds and preventing human energy from being dissipated in partisan or personal preferences. 31 32 33 34

3. Connection to Divine Justice

The realization of true liberty is inseparable from the application of divine justice:

  • Foundation of Peace: Divine justice is the “only basis and the permanent foundation” of the Most Great Peace. 35 36 37
  • A Faculty of the Soul: Justice is viewed as a faculty that enables individuals to “see with thine own eyes and not through the eyes of others”. 38 39 40 41 By exercising this faculty to follow divine law, an individual achieves a “second birth” of the spirit, which is a literal release from the captivity of the material world and natural instincts. 42 43
  • Liberation from the Lower Nature: Divine laws are intended to liberate the individual and society from “lower inclinations” and “bestial degradation”. 44 45 46 47

4. Practical Implications

The sources emphasize that true liberty results in a “coherent life of service”:

  • Immunity to Hardship: Those who achieve this freedom through obedience become “immune to all hardship and sorrow,” as they have severed their affections from all worldly things. 48 49
  • A Gift of Love: Ultimately, true liberty is described as Bahá’u’lláh’s “gift of love to the human race”. 50 51 He accepted imprisonment and chains specifically so that mankind could be “released from its bondage” and attain this exalted state. 52 53 54 55
