  • Manifesting Potential: The perfections potentially possessed by a human being can only be manifested through their “own volition”. 18 19 Success or failure depends on one’s own exertions. 20
  • Responsibility for Action: The sources state that “every good thing is of God, and every evil thing is from yourselves”. 21 22 Man’s agency allows him to be a “protagonist” who can choose to align his actions with divine justice to release “civilization-building powers”. 23

3. Constructive Resilience as Principled Action

Constructive resilience is the application of agency and justice within a cause-and-effect framework to transform a negative environment.

  • Building the Good: Instead of reacting to evil with more evil—which would only perpetuate a cycle of negative effects—those practicing constructive resilience focus on “the building of the good”. 26 They believe that the “positive strength” of good causes will eventually cause evils to “fade away”. 27
  • Breaking the Cycle of Victimization: By “rejecting the label of victim,” individuals exercise their agency to respond to “enmity and hatred” with “love, mercy and compassion”. 28 29 This creates a new spiritual “cause” that seeks to “rehabilitate the fortunes of mankind”. 30 31
  • Justice as a Faculty: Justice is viewed as a “faculty of the soul” that enables the individual to “see with thine own eyes and not through the eyes of others”. 32 33 This faculty guides the individual to act with “rectitude of conduct” regardless of external pressure, trusting that such a “cause” will attract “heavenly confirmations” and lead to ultimate victory. 34 35

4. Coherence in the Social Order

In the body politic, justice requires that the “force” of law be used to protect the rights of all, rather than for vengeance. 36 37 Constructive resilience applies this by seeking to “build, to strengthen, to refine the tissues of society” through consultation and cooperation rather than the “adversary principle” of conflict and power struggles. 38 39 40

In summary, because the universe is a system of cause and effect, an individual’s agency is their most powerful tool; by choosing the path of constructive resilience, they use that agency to sow the seeds of justice, confident that this is the only “cause” that can produce the “effect” of a unified and peaceful world civilization. 41 42 43
